A brand-new Data Center in Europe is now available!

March 19, 2009
In order to better meet the expanding web hosting needs of our customers from all over Europe, we made the decision to open our doors to another famous European Data Center - the UK Data Center, which is located in Maidenhead, Berkshire.

As a result, we are pleased to share with you today the addition of a new data center option to our, or your, services. So, here it is: the brand-new Swedish data center is ready to boost your competitiveness in the booming Scandinavian market! Typically, beginning to utilize a new data center's services is accompanied by the possibility of issues, but we worked deligently for months to get ready for this release, removing all bugs and making sure that all servers there meet our strict standards for speed, reliability, and performance. Here are some intriguing data center facts:

  • Previously, it was a nuclear bunker. That's correct, it was constructed during the Cold War to act as a fallout shelter and military bunker.
  • Considering that it was built to serve as a fallout shelter, it can withstand being struck by a hydrogen bomb. Just so you know, the majority of nuclear bombs fall under the 10 megaton range, although a hydrogen bomb can have a destructive force of more than 50 megatons (50 million tons of TNT).
  • Two German Maybach submarine engines that have a 1.5 Megawatt output power the entire complex.
  • The facility is located 30 meters (100 feet) below Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, inside a solid bedrock (granite) cave.
  • It houses Bahnhof, one of Sweden's largest Internet service providers - Network Operations Center.
  • The network has three alternative physical entrances into the mountain and complete redundancy using fiber optics and additional copper connections. One of northern Europe's most well-connected locations.

Here are a few images that further highlight the outstanding features of the Swedish data center. Below, you can see the conference room for the data center, which hangs from the ceiling and has a view of the two Maybach submarine diesel engines on the right and the server rooms on the left:

All order forms currently support the new data center. The order form found under the Reseller Control Panel's "Buy Hosting Account" menu.

How to choose the Swedish Datacenter from the Template Order Form

Additionally, our Free Resellers have the option to make this data center the default option for their online shops. To do this, go to the Store Settings menu in the Reseller Control Panel and select the Miscellaneous section.

From the Reseller Control Panel, select a default data center for your clients.

Customers will still be able to select their preferred data center on the order form. This will just make the Bahnhof data center the default option. The other data centers will still be accessible for use.

In the coming months, we plan to finish a customized tour of a dаta center that will be utilized for reseller templates. Our blog readers will be the first to learn as soon as it is prepared.
